SASSA disability grant is a South African government grant that is money that helps other eligible citizens. Sassa disability grant is according to the South African government sections 6,7,8,9,10,11,12 or 13. However, section 17 says the applicant must be a Republic citizen and resident. 

SASSA Payment Dates of Disability Grant for 2024/2025

Requirements for the SASSA Disability Grant

Temporary Disability Grant: 

If your disability is no longer than 12 months, then you will get a temporary SASSA disability grant. 

Permanent Disability Grant:

Eligibility Conditions to Qualify for Disability Grant

Conditions for Applicants Above 18

  • Applicant must be a South African citizen, permanent resident or Refugee 
  • Applicant must be in South Africa at the time of application
  • applicant age must be 18 or more 
  • Applicant’s age must be less than 59 years
  • They must have a 13-digit (ID)
  • For single or unmarried: your income must be R86 280 or less
  • For married: your income must be R172 560 or less 
  • For single or unmarried: worth of assets must be R1 227 600 or less 
  • For married: worth of assets must be R2 455 200 or less
  • Medical report to prove your disability by a state doctor.
  • Your last medical reports 
  • The current and last reports will make a final report for SASSA.
  • The report validity time is three months.

Conditions for Applicants Less than 18

  • Under 18 must be cared for by caretaker 
  • Your permanent caretaker is allowed to apply on your behalf.
  • In the case of ID absence, apply for ID at the Office of Home Affairs 
  • You must have proof of ID application
  • Basic conditions are the same for both age groups.

  • Get an application form from the nearest SASSA office
  • Fill out the form with the help of a SASSA officer.  
  • You need Your 13-digit bar-coded identity document (ID). 
  • A functional assessment report and medical report to prove your disability 
  • Proof of applicant’s marital status
  • Applicant’s residence status.
  • Bank statement for last three months/ pension proof or other proof of income
  • Proof of your asset’s value 
  • Refugee permit (if Refugee)
  • 13-digit refugee ID. (if Refugee)
  • discharge certificate if you were employed in the past.
  • (UIF) Unemployment Insurance Fund document
  • Fill in the application form, attach all documents and submit it 
  • Get a receipt as proof of application.

  • Check SASSA status and read about how to appeal for decline status to the Minister of Social Development
  • find the reason why the application is declined from social security office
  • explain the reason why you disagree.
  • Your appeal will take a maximum of 90 days to notify you.

Note:

  • If SASSA approves your appeal within 90 days, then you will get the grant amount from the day you applied.
  • Grant Applicant and appeal both are free of cost
